On the Concept of Limit
Seven piano pieces in a neoclassical style (with subtle touches of jazz).
The expressive range of the pieces spans from melancholic to hopeful, yet never aggressive or hyperactive. Several miniatures point more toward acceptance than sorrow, contemplate transience with quiet intensity, and allow even emptiness itself to become a vehicle of expression.
The music remains calm yet eloquent: neo-baroque in the clarity of its lines, romantic without sentimentality, optimistic without euphoria, and serene without superficiality. It seeks composure rather than stasis, depth rather than pathos.
In this cycle, an idea that has been with me for some time takes shape:
the titles of the individual pieces are meant to be read like the lines of a poem — in this case, a poem with existential overtones, about an awareness of limits and finitude.
Up to a Certain Point
Nothing Gets Lost
Yet All Will Be Forgotten
At the End of the Day
Even the Sky Has a Limit
However, However
Only the Present Has No Limits
