Jack Alden

New York

Jack Alden has been captivating listeners from coast to coast. Born in New York City, he has called many places home: New York, San Juan, PR; London, Honolulu, Providence, Vero Beach, Miami, Las Vegas, and San Diego, to name a few. He credits his diverse musical perspective for giving his original compositions and arrangements the unique sound that defines his work. In his youth, he spent hours spinning Classical LPs, while road trips unfolded to the sounds of the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and the local Oldies station. That most of these trips were taken in the summer in a 1976 Buick “Woodie” lends them a decidedly artistic feel in the rearview.

Jack won a friendly bet of $5 in high school that he couldn’t teach himself piano, and to this day, he remains completely self-taught. Thanks to a curious ear and exposure to classical, folk, traditional and contemporary mele of Hawai’i, jazz, rock/pop, rap, hip-hop, and techno, over the years he has developed a unique blend of elements that makes his music instantly recognizable and instantly timeless. Writes one fan, “I think when a composer’s work is an amalgam of diverse musical influences, the music has so many places to go and an immense capacity to draw into its dialogue an immense resource of historical memory… that quality is what evokes the deepest and best emotions and the passions we feel as humans to endure and persist… Jack’s music has that quality.”

Jack currently resides in New York and is hard at work on his debut independent release. Prior to devoting his life full-time to his music, he was a commercial pilot for a cargo airline, a flight instructor over mountains and desert, and a bicycle mechanic. Jack proudly serves in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary as an Interpreter and Radio Watchstander, and has been honored to receive multiple Meritorious Team Commendations for his dedication to our nation and Coast Guard.

Jack is a member of the Hawaiian Academy of Recording Arts and when not in the studio or composing, he practices martial arts, listens to baseball on the radio, flies planes, rock climbs, surfs and races outrigger canoes.
