Joe Semple

Leeds, UK

Joe has been making music in one way or another for most of his life, but for several years now has focused mainly on composing for solo piano, and making himself a better pianist in the process.
He is mainly inspired by the romantic and the ‘impressionist’ composers such as Mompou, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Clara Schumann and Chopin, and writes tonal, melodic pieces after their fashion.
He also enjoys some of the more minimalist and ‘pop’ style examples of romantic solo piano music that have become popular over the last few years, such as that done by Joep Beving, as well as cinematic music such as that of Philip Glass. His music draws on influences from these styles as well as from the 19th and early 20th century composers.

Joe released his debut album, titled ‘Miklagard’ late last year. It has been described as follows by the Richer sounds music magazine: ‘Miklagard is a collection of beautifully composed pieces of art that will calm your mind and help you focus on whatever task you’re working on.’

Joe’s music has been played on BBC radio, and he recently played his first live show containing pieces from the album, at the Brudenell social club in Leeds. In the future he plans to write music involving multiple instruments, specifically music for strings, as well as writing more for solo piano.
