Ulrich Kutschera, a renowned biologist and musician, was born in Freiburg, i. Br., Germany. His father, a talented artist and photographer, and his mother, a classical piano player instilled in him a love for music and the arts from an early age. Ulrich began playing classical piano at age 9 and soon started composing his own music, inspired by the masters of classical music such as Bach, Mozart and Beethoven.
As a young man, Kutschera pursued a career in biology, earning a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in evolutionary biology and physiology. He also continued to develop his musical talents, studying composition, taking advanced piano lessons and producing his first album, “The First Incarnation”, in 1983. The album received critical acclaim, notably in the US.
Kutschera’s music style is best described as neoclassical, Piano-based (romantic) Prog-Rock, with influences from the great composers of the past, and British keyboardists like Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson. He has produced seven full-length albums and 8 singles, distributed worldwide via Compact Disc Services-UK. As a prominent scientist and musician, Kutschera has received recognition from his colleagues and peers. However, he remains true to his artistic vision, refusing to adapt to popular styles or trends.
